BBC One, Britain’s mostpopular and viewed channel, the BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) began broadcasting programmes in 1932. It is paid for by the British public who pay an annual TV license fee. This allows viewers to watch their programmes uninterrupted by advertisements.

The BBC 1’s main rating’s rival is ITV and between them, they fight it out with soaps such as Eastenders versus Coronation Street. Although ratings for February 2015 show television’s most popular programme to be the Eastenders, now in its thirtieth year of consecutive broadcasting by BBC One.
